For Communities Holiday Season Energy Saving Tips Program History About the Holiday Light Exchange

2011 promises to be an especially exciting year, with over 90 events being held across the province — our largest number of exchanges ever!

This season, NS Power and Efficiency Nova Scotia have partnered to promote the use of energy efficient LED lights and provide Nova Scotians with the opportunity to receive a free string of LED lights, in exchange for two strings of traditional glass holiday lights.

From November to December, the exchanges take place at community tree lighting ceremonies across the province. Bring in two sets of glass holiday lights for recycling and receive one set of LED holiday lights for free.

Why switch to LED?

Did you know that LED holiday lights use 90% less electricity than traditional holiday lights and last 10 times longer?

By exchanging two strands of your traditional holiday lights that typically run 5 hours a day over the month of December (155 hours) for one FREE set of LEDs, you could save over $6.00 on your power bill.

Last year, 69 Nova Scotian communities exchanged strands of old holiday lights for approximately 10,000 new LED strings – that's enough to power 35 average Nova Scotian homes.
